If you want to take a closer look at the exquisite results of such craftsmanship, then you should drop by the newly opened Hermès boutique in Stuttgart. The 355 square meters of retail space, divided into six areas, should provide enough material to marvel at, to touch and to try on. Why do Stuttgart and Hermès fit together so well? The French company offers an explanation in its press release: “Stuttgart was founded as a stud farm – and our first customer was a horse.” Sounds like a perfect relationship.

UNIVERSAL WORKS LONDON

Modern clothing with a visible link to tradition – this is how David Keyte, the founder of British label Universal Works, describes his fashions. What began with designs at the kitchen table in 2009 has become a popular menswear brand available from Los Angeles to Seoul. Universal Works itself now owns four stores in London, the most recent of which opened just under a year ago in the Coal Drops Yard shopping area near King’s Cross Station. The store retains the historic industrial character to create a spectacular space in which to try on the latest collections – all completely sustainable, of course, and largely produced regionally in cooperation with trustworthy suppliers.

PALACE LOS ANGELES

The name sounds a bit like a hotel chain, but what we have here is a British skatewear label with four flagship stores in the UK, Japan and the USA. This year saw the opening of a store in Los Angeles featuring casual tops, shirts, hats and footwear in an ancient Roman interior. The Pantheon-style ceilings, temple pillars in the entryway andcave canem mosaics on the floor will make you do a quick double take as you wonder if you’re still on the American continent. But no sooner are you back on Melrose Avenue squinting in the West Hollywood sun with your arms packed full of shopping bags than the confusion is passé.Carpe diem and so on.
